Why Shouldn’t We Drop our Guard When Everything Seems Going Well

Scripture reading: Genesis 2:7-17, Genesis 1:26-31, Genesis 3:1-9, Ezekiel 18:4, Romans 6:23, 1 Peter 5:8, James 1:15, 1 John 1:9

Have you ever experienced that season in your life when everything seems to be well with you, everything just seems right, everything is just how you want it to be? My friend, be careful when this time happens, most likely you will drop your guard down. Remember to be sober-minded, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8).

Let us look at the scripture in Genesis 2:7-17 (ESV)

then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.

And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed.

And out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

10 A river flowed out of Eden to water the garden, and there it divided and became four rivers.

11 The name of the first is the Pishon. It is the one that flowed around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.

12 And the gold of that land is good; bdellium and onyx stone are there.

13 The name of the second river is the Gihon. It is the one that flowed around the whole land of Cush.

14 And the name of the third river is the Tigris, which flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.

16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden,

17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

Probably you will have this question in your mind, “Why did God placed the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the garden of Eden? Is it to tempt man?

Let us put it in this analogy, if there is only one woman and one man in the world and you wanted to get married and he or she is your only choice. So where is love in there? In other words, if Adam and Eve did not have a choice, they would have been like robots. If God has placed them in the garden and gave them no choices. Then will it be love or is it not?

The Lord has given us an opportunity to make a choice, to love Him enough to choose right. He gave us a choice to love Him or not to love Him. That will make our relationship with Him far more precious, rewarding and fulfilling.

“He gave us a choice to love Him or not to love Him”

In your walk with God he is blessing you, having a job that’s making enough money, your family is doing good, you drive a nice vehicle, living in a nice home. As far as you are concerned everything’s just going fine. But remember we must live in this world on guard. “be sober-minded, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8)”.

Because the devil always has an offer that is absolutely opposing to what God has for you.

We must live very sensitive with the holy spirit within us. Eve instead of thinking where she was, what she has, thinking about what God had said, and how perfect the place they are living in. She decided she wanted something that was forbidden (Genesis 3:6). Satan is still lying, still deceiving until this present time, he his telling people you need this, you need that. John 8:44 tells us “You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

All the pain, all the sorrow, all the heartache, all the death and misery that has happened in this world began in a perfect garden between two people who disobeyed God. You must be very careful when everything is good, you have to be careful when everything is right. What happens is when everything seems right that is when people drop their guard. “be sober-minded, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour”.

“All the pain, all the sorrow, all the heartache, all the death and misery that has happened in this world began in a perfect garden between two people who disobeyed God.”

Satan will say, a little bit of sin won’t hurt you, listen very carefully, a little bit of sin will hurt you, because a little bit of sin usually multiplies into a whole lot of sin and a whole lot of disobedience to God. “Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death” (James 1:15)

Remember this, “the soul that sinneth, it shall die” (Ezekiel 18:4 KJV).

The law of God does not change, “For the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23)”

From Genesis to Revelation, the bible is full of proofs, the day that you sin against God, something happens to you. You die on the inside.

We cannot change the law of God, “the soul that sinneth, it shall die”

As believers of Jesus Christ we should follow the Holy Spirit, we should follow his promptings. Be sensitive when He shows us something that does not belong in our life. We should be able to say No, No, No. We shouldn’t argue with Him, instead we should obey.

People around us are dying in the inside every day because of sin “the soul that sinneth, it shall die” and “For the wages of sin is death”.

If you have not accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior you are like Adam and Eve hiding behind the tree, you are lost, and the only hope of salvation is accepting Jesus as your personal savior, trusting Him to forgive you of your sins. Say “NO” to sin and say “YES” to the living God. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

Father, thank you that you are faithful and just to forgive me of my sins if I confess them to you, clean my heart O Lord of all sinfulness and give me a clean heart that is sensitive to your promptings. Let me not be off guard but always fixing my eyes on you.

  1. Without the new birth…we are truly lost. But because of the obedience of One Man: Christ Jesus…who paid in full the price for sin…we are born again/born fro ABOVE…when we receive Him as our Saviour…and LORD…we are New Creations! Very able to say yes to the Good Lord and saying no the the world, the flesh, and the devil. Great meeting you Leo❣️
